Chateau de Candie
Info: Five minutes from the center of Chambery, this massive 14th century chateau had its beautiful rooms elegantly renovated. The cuisine is inspired by its Savoy roots: sautéed mushrooms and crawfish, omble chevalier meuniere, beef fillet seasoned with Szechuan pepper. Great cheeses and wines.

Brasserie de la Poste
Info: Since the mid-1960s this cozy brasserie has served bountiful, cost-conscious meals to office workers, day laborers, and commuters. The interior is outfitted in tones of dark bordeaux and dark hardwood paneling, waiters are attentive and hardworking, and food is doled out in generous portions.

La Vieille Maison
Info: Constructed in 1780, it has lots of exposed stone and is very old-fashioned. Menu items are based on Savoyard themes, with hearty cold-weather dishes such as fondues and raclettes, many of which are prepared only for two to four diners.

La Bergerie
Info: Its uneven flagstone steps, stacks of firewood, and weathered pine logs and planks testify to La Bergerie’s origins as an 1830s shepherd’s hut. The ambiance is sports-oriented and outdoorsy. An especially refined platter that usually meets with success is pate of salmon smoked, poached, grilled, and served with lemon-and-caviar creme fraiche.
